About Us

North Berwick Highland Games was initially a community group or ‘Association’ that came together to organise and put on a competition for the benefit of the local North Berwick Community.

Since the first Games, it has continued to develop and is now recognised as a “national event” by Event Scotland and by the local tourist organisation. The Games takes place on either the first or second Saturday each August – its dependent on the number of Saturday’s in that month – if 4 we’re on the first, if 5, we’re on the second.

A few years ago the ‘Association’ became a company limited by guarantee to help ensure each member of the Board and Committee are covered insurance wise. A few months later we gained charity status. As a charity will encourage greater participation in sport, arts, heritage and culture.

The Board meets every few months to organise the Games, meeting more frequently as the date of the Games approaches. We’re always open to new members and volunteers, especially in the days leading up to the event and on the day itself.

We rely very much on sponsorship and donations from several groups whether it be in kind, financially or in goods and are grateful to the people/groups in following list. Without their help the Games couldn’t take place.

Lothian Computer Systems, North Berwick Rotary, East Lothian Council, Belhaven Brewery, Angus Chartered Surveyors, Walkers Shortbread.

This year (2012) we must also thank M&D Catering, Outdoor Bar Services.
